In the Driftwood Brewery Taproom our mission is to blend the joy of craft beer with the vibrancy of the arts; creating a unique space where creativity and community thrive. We aim to showcase local artists and provide an inspiring environment for artistic expression, while our brewery offers a welcoming atmosphere for people to connect and enjoy. We seek to enrich our community’s cultural landscape and celebrate the intersection of art and craft beer.

We run our Artist Gallery on a rotating calendar. If you’d like to apply to have your art featured in the Driftwood Artist Gallery, please fill out the form below and we will be in touch!

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Sarah Savage

My name is Sarah, and I’m a tattooer.

I grew up here on the beautiful coast of Vancouver Island, where I currently live and work.  Surrounded by artists and craftspeople, I was raised by a wonderfully DIY family… I learned that you could make anything yourself.

As a kid my love of anime, video games, and comic books immediately drew me to Japanese culture –  by the time I was fifteen I was on my way to Yamanashi Prefecture for my first homestay, followed by an exchange to Wakayama in the Kansai area – renown for it’s abundance in ancient temples dripping with Shinto and Buddhist art.   The emersion in Japanese esthetic and lifestyle quickly accelerated my interest in illustration…  This is the heart of my creative compulsion and consumption.

I started tattooing in 2008 at Pair-o-Dice tattoos in Victoria BC.  I began my apprenticeship while attending the University of Victoria for History of Art, and Visual Arts training.  Of course tattooing took over and I soon found myself leaving school to focus on my new found obsession… After a long and winding journey through amazing friendships, hard lessons, long flights, endless drawing sessions, and innumerable laughs…  I found myself at Second Street Tattoo in Sidney BC with Dave Knight. There are so many I am grateful for throughout my career – the people I have worked with, and the amazing humans who have trusted me to tattoo them.. but a particular thank you goes to Dave – his dedication to the craft of tattooing is nothing short of exceptional… it has been a true honour to work under his guidance and experience.

At this point in my career I am a travelling tattooer moving from shop to shop around the greater Victoria area, Vancouver Island, and the lower mainland- currently I have a part-time residency at Tech Noir tattoo, and frequently make appearances at Black Rabbit in Port Moody, and Pure Love in Coombs.

If you would like to talk to me about a tattoo, artwork commission, or otherwise please email info@sarahsavage.net

Thank you.
